The Moose Jaw Miller Express are proud to announce that longtime infielder Austin Gurney has officially signed his first professional baseball contract, joining the Ottawa Titans of the Frontier League for the 2026 season.

Gurney, 23, has been a cornerstone of the Miller Express lineup for the past four summers, consistently delivering elite production and establishing himself as one of the WCBL’s most reliable and dangerous hitters. His signing marks a major milestone in his baseball journey—and a proud moment for the entire Miller Express organization.

A Standout Career in Moose Jaw

Over four seasons in a Miller Express uniform, Gurney built a résumé that places him among the most productive players in team history. In 212 career games, he posted an impressive:

  • .323 lifetime batting average
  • 43 doubles
  • 27 home runs
  • 193 RBI
  • Three WCBL All-Star selections

His 2025 campaign was one of the strongest of his career, hitting .364 with 15 doubles, six home runs, and 61 RBI over just 55 games. Whether driving in runs, setting the tone at the plate, or providing steady leadership, Gurney became a fan favourite and a clubhouse anchor.

A Journey Built Across Multiple Levels

Originally from Campbell River, British Columbia, Gurney played collegiate baseball at Cochise College (Arizona), Marshalltown Community College (Iowa), and the University of Pikeville (Kentucky). During his senior season at Pikeville, he hit .309 with 11 doubles and six home runs, knocking in 47 RBI across 49 games.

His blend of strength, consistency, and maturity made him an ideal fit for Moose Jaw—and now, for the pro ranks.

Next Stop: Ottawa

Gurney now heads to the Canadian capital to begin his professional career with the Ottawa Titans, who compete in the Frontier League, one of Major League Baseball’s partner leagues. The Titans announced the signing on December 1, 2025, praising Gurney’s offensive production and potential heading into 2026.

The Miller Express organization, fans, coaches, and teammates are all excited to watch Austin continue his growth and represent Moose Jaw on the professional stage.

A Message from the Miller Express

“Austin has been a tremendous player and an even better teammate during his time in Moose Jaw. His work ethic, talent, and leadership have been invaluable to our program,” the organization said. “We’re extremely proud of him and can’t wait to follow his success in Ottawa.”

Congratulations, Austin

The Moose Jaw Miller Express wish Austin Gurney every success as he takes this significant step in his baseball career. His achievements in Moose Jaw will always be part of his story—and we can’t wait to cheer him on in the Frontier League.
