After an almost six-hour affair on Wednesday night that saw the Moose Jaw Miller Express fall to the Brooks Bombers, the hometown team was able to find the win column on Thursday night.

With the help of two solo home runs in the second inning by Wyatt Tweet and Dougie Delacruz and a five-run fifth inning, Moose Jaw took down Brooks 8-5 in front of almost 300 fans at Ross Wells Park.

Moose Jaw put together a total of 14 hits on Thursday night.

Dawson Tweet went 4-for-5 at the plate picking up a double, while Delacruz and Wyatt Tweet added three hits of their own and a combined five RBIs. Luke LaChance also had a good night going 2-for-4.

North Delta, BC’s, Cameron Dunn put forward a stellar pitching performance, throwing five innings, allowing only two runs on four hits, and adding three strikeouts.

Zach Sigmon closed out the game in the top of the ninth inning, striking out the side and securing the win.

As they did on Wednesday, Moose Jaw would get the offense going in the second inning. Delacruz would hit a leadoff home run to put Moose Jaw up 1-0. The very next batter, Wyatt Tweet would add his third home run of the season to put the Millers up 2-0.

Brooks would get those two runs back in the top of the fifth inning and tie the game at 2-2. Moose Jaw would respond in their half of the fifth inning. They would tack on five runs to give themselves the 7-2 lead.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Brooks would fight back in the top of the eighth inning picking up three runs to cut the lead to 7-5.

The Miller Express would add a run in the bottom of the eighth inning and didn’t look back, picking up the 8-5 win.

The win puts their record at 10-4 and added some separation to their lead in the Western Canadian Baseball League’s East Division, two and a half games ahead of the Regina Red Sox.

Moose Jaw will now head west to Alberta for a six-game road trip, playing six games in six nights, starting on Friday night in Sylvan Lake against the Gulls.

Their next home game will be on June 23 against the Medicine Hat Mavericks at 7:05 p.m.
