Three, three-run innings propelled the Moose Jaw Miller Express to an 11-2 win on Monday night against the Fort McMurray Giants.

The win snapped their three-game losing streak and was their first on Moose Jaw’s six-game Alberta, road swing.

The Millers wasted no time getting the offense going in last night’s affair. In the first inning and with the bases loaded, an error by the right fielder would allow three runs to score for the early 3-0 lead.

Two innings later, the Miller Express again put up three runs. Chaz Poppy would lead off the inning with a single to left field. Austin Gurney would bring Poppy home with an RBI triple to make it 4-0.

Following a one-out walk, which would put two men on base, Luke LaChance would smack a double to center field to bring home a pair, and just like that Moose Jaw would hold a 6-0 lead.

Fort McMurray would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fifth inning, Moose Jaw would yet again pick up three runs to give them the 9-1 lead through five innings.

Moose Jaw would pick up a run in the sixth and ninth inning to make the final 11-2. In the win, the Miller Express would pick up 11 runs on 14 hits.

Luke LaChance led the Millers at the plate going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two doubles. Parker Dorrance, Austin Gurney, and Enrique Morales each picked up two hits.

On the mound, Ethan Merk pitched six innings, striking out five, and only gave up one run for his second win of the season.

The win improves their record to 11-7 on the season and keeps them in first place in the Western Canadian Baseball League’s East Division with a game and a half lead over the Regina Red Sox.

Moose Jaw will continue their road trip on Tuesday, as they begin a two-game set with the Brooks Bombers. Tuesday’s first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
