The Moose Jaw Miller Express continues to knock off east division opponents, as the end of the regular season quickly approaches.

Their most recent opponent was the Swift Current 57s, who they were able to take down by a score of 9-4 on Wednesday night at Mitchell Field.

Both the bats and the pitching were working for Moose Jaw on Wednesday.

Bobby Pokorney and Chaz Poppy both went 4-for-5 at the dish. Poppy crossed the plate three times, while Pokorney had three RBIs and one run.

Matt Vasquez had another solid performance on the mound, pitching six innings, and only gave up three runs on five hits.

After a scoreless first inning, Moose Jaw would get on the board. Pokorney launched a double to left field, scoring Poppy who got on base via a two-out single, and just like that the Miller Express were up 1-0.

In the top of the third inning, the Moose Jaw squad would extend their lead to 3-0. Nate Mensik would pick up an RBI single, scoring Dawson Tweet from second base, and then Austin Gurney would drive home Mensik with a single to right field.

The 57s would respond in their half of the third inning. Swift Current would score a pair of runs, following an error by the second baseman. Then, with two out Justin Barnes would score the tying run following another error by Moose Jaw and it was 3-3.

The Miller Express would then score five unanswered runs to take an 8-3 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Swift Current responded with a single run in that half-inning to cut the lead in half, making it 8-4.

Moose Jaw added a single run in the top of the ninth inning, and then Bobby Pokorney closed the game out in the bottom of the night to win 9-4.

The Miller Express improved to 32-15 on the season and pushed their lead even further in the east division to 9.5 games over the second-place Medicine Hat Mavericks.

These two east division rivals will go head-to-head once again on Thursday night, this time at Ross Wells Park, starting at 7:05 p.m.
