Make two wins in a row for the Moose Jaw Miller Express. A three-run fifth inning helped them to a 6-2 win on Monday night in Swift Current against the 57’s.
The 57s would get on the board in the bottom half of the second inning after Ethan Murdoch would cross the plate to give the home side the 1-0 advantage.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning, Luke Lachance would hit a single to center field driving home Chaz Poppy to tie the game at 1-1.
In the very next inning, Moose Jaw would pull away. The Millers would begin to get 57’s starter, Patrick Tangen. After Enrique Morales and Thomas Soto would find themselves on base with no outs, Dawson Tweet would drive home a run to take the lead 2-1.
Chaz Poppy would come to the plate and drive home Soto from third base. After a pitching substitution, Austin Gurney would hit a sacrifice fly to left field to allow Tweet to score for the 4-1 lead.
The two teams would trade runs in the sixth inning and Moose Jaw would put the game away in the ninth inning to pick up their second road win of the season 6-2.
Eight Moose Jaw Miller Express batters picked up a hit in the win. Dawson Tweet led the way going 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Chazz Poppy and Thomas Soto each had a double in the win.
Starter Julian Gonzalez would pitch four innings, allowing only three hits, and one run, and added a strikeout for the no-decision. Moose Jaw’s Kaleb Waller would pick up the win on the mound in relief, throwing two allowing, allowing one run, on one hit.
Moose Jaw improves their record to 9-3 and remains in first place, in the Western Canadian Baseball League’s East Division.
The Miller Express are back on the field on Wednesday night, as they host the Brooks Bombers at 7:05 p.m.
